About Us

Our 6 year old daughter, Athena, was diagnosed with the rare, terminal disease called Metachromatic Leukodystrophy, or MLD.  Athena was perfect and healthy until she was 2 & 1/2.  Now, because of this disease, she can no longer walk, talk or eat. She is bedridden, and cannot move any part of her body voluntarilly.   She is blind & going deaf.  She suffers from chronic pain and seizures.  She is fed & medicated through a g-tube, and she has brittle bones and 2 chronially dislocated hips.

Athena's Hope was created because MLD is such a rare disease that it doesn't get much attention & their is virtually no government funding for research.  All of the money that we raise goes to a couple different research teams that are working on the  miracle that we so desperately need.  Time is running out for Athena, but there is a chance that a cure will be found in time.

Your courage as a family in the face of Athena's devastating illness is an inspiration. Thank you for showing us all how to take action even in the most challenging of circumstances.
