As a psychotherapist, author, professor, business consultant, husband and father, I have pursued a greater understanding of how to live a more fulfilled life. Since what I can effectively teach is limited to what I have been able to achieve in my own life, I am my own continuing student. Fortunately, as a result of co-authoring the best-selling book, Do I Have to Give Up Me to Be Loved by You?, many doors have opened that have allowed me to deepen my understanding and more effectively live and teach my message. The heart as the essence of a joyful and fulfilling life has been my focus for the past twenty years. Applying what it means to stay heart-connected, especially in the face of adversity, is the subject of my latest book Becoming Your Own Hero. Movies My most favorite movies are: Shakespeare In Love, The Fisher King, The Hours, Il Postino, Crash, Beautiful Dreamers, Dangerous Beauty, Les Miserables 10th Anniversary Concert, Pleasantville, Brother Sun Sister Moon, Rent and Strictly Ballroom.
Music My most favorite music is smooth jazz, classical and Latin.
Books My most favorite books are: The Invitation, The Dance, A Path with Heart, Love and Awakening, The Dark Side of the Light Chasers, Meeting Jesus For The First Time and The Guru Papers.
Causes The causes that I am drawn to and passionately support, relate the idea of living more from the heart to education, global peace/conflict resolution, and to our environment. These organizations include: PassageWorks, which applies to education the ground-breaking ideas of Rachael Kessler from her book, The Soul of Education; Pachamama Alliance that began out of the passion of Bill and Lynn Twist to save our rainforest and has now expanded to include working toward planetary social justice, environmental sustainability and spiritual awakening; and
The Abraham Path Initiative created by William Ury, author of Getting to Yes and sponsored by the Global Negotiation Project at Harvard University, to open of a long-distance route of cultural and historical tourism that follows the journey of Abraham (Ibrahim) through the Middle East some 4,000 years ago and serve as a neutral platform for human encounter and cross-cultural understanding, community-based development and youth leadership.
People I Would Like to Collaborate With I love collaborating with people because the synergy that happens adds so much more to what I can create alone. The only downside to collaboration is when differences create conflict and that conflict is not dealt with respectfully. I want to collaborate with people who are committed to learning from disrespectful reactions to conflict and cleaning up any wounding that occurs from being disrespected. I want to engage in ways that build trust and safety as we create not only a better world, but the joyful experiences that assist in our personal transformation.
