Who We Are
The vision of Judi's House is a community in which no child has to feel alone in grief.
Our Organization's Mission
Our mission is to help children and families who are grieving the death of a loved one find hope and healing within themselves.
Who We Serve
Grieving children ages 3 to 18 who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, grandparent or other loved one. We also provide grief support to the adult cargivers of these children and youth.
Our Programs
In an effort to realize its vision and embrace its mission, the Board, Staff and Volunteers provide grief support groups to children 3-18 and their adult caregivers, raise awareness about children and grief through informal interactions and formalized training and outreach to the community, and further professional understanding of grief in children through continued investment in empirical research and development of “best practices”.

What Sets Us Apart
Our primary services are offered at Judi's House which is an alternative to the sterile, clinical settings that traditional bereavment services are offered. Our primary point of intervention is with the children and youth as opposed to the adult or parent. Since this is true, we offer many ways for these children and youth to express themselves including peer support groups, experiential activities including sand tray work, art, outdoor grief adventure courses in collaboration with Outward Bound.
We do not tell our kids how to grieve, we step with them through their experience of grief.
We have a diverse array of support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and events. (Download our annual report pdf on this profile page to learn more)
Objectives for This Fiscal Year
In March of 2007, the Board of Directors, with input from key stakeholders in the community, mapped the strategic business plan for the agency for the next five years. Through this process the agency’s mission, vision, successes in the first five years, strengths, and capacity were considered. Special attention was given to the ongoing needs for grief support services focused on children in Colorado and beyond.
The resulting strategic business includes:
A pointed commitment to the continued longitudinal research study of children and grief begun in 2006 through a contract with CU Boulder’s Department of Psychology
Development of “best practice” interventions based on this research and dissemination of findings from this research nationally
Diversified outreach to grieving youth and children in the community through cultivation of community partnerships and collaboration
Ongoing investment in the organizational infrastructure to support agency growth
Embracing the agency’s values of
PREVENTION
INCLUSION
INNOVATION
COLLABORATION
COMPASSION
Recent Accomplishments
Since opening our doors in 2002, we have served more than 2,000 grieving children.
In 2006 we began a longitudinal study of children and greif that is one of the first of its kind. We met and exceeded revenue/fundraising goals for the most recently completed fiscal year (July 2006 to June 2007).
Judi's House was selected as a finalist by the El Pomar Foundation for an Award for Excellence in the non profit sector.
