Make the Difference Network Privacy Policy The effective date of this Privacy Policy September 26, 2007 We created Make The Difference Network to allow caring individuals and businesses to connect and collaborate with nonprofit organizations and support them in a variety of ways; including making donations, building a cause-oriented social network of other supporters and telling lots of people about nonprofits and causes they care about. We are committed to protecting your privacy. We know that you may not want certain people to have information that you share on MTDN.com, so we have tried to give you lots of control over your information. By using MTDN.com, you permit the collection and use of your personal information as outlined below in out Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree with the MTDN.com Privacy Policy, please don’t use the site. About Make The Difference Network Make The Difference Network (MTDN.com) is Web-based, cause-oriented social network (cause network) providing nonprofit organizations a place to post specific Wishes and allowing individual and businesses to make donations directly to the nonprofit in support of those Wishes. In order for individuals and businesses to make donations, they first must join MTDN.com as member. In addition to making donations, MTDN.com allows our members to set up unique personal profiles that can be linked together through networks of friends. MTDN.com members can view each others' profiles, create friends lists, create nonprofit friends lists, connect with old friends and meet new friends, share photos, share their thoughts, feelings and opinions via blogs and post comments to Wishes. To enrich our members' experience, we request and display some personal information to other members and visitors, which allows our members to identify each other and expand their network of friends. MTDN members can change their profile information at any time and can control how other members and the service communicates with them. MTDN.com is committed to protecting your privacy. Information Collection and Use by MTDN.com MTDN.com collects member submitted information such as name, email address, and age (how to authenticate members and to send notifications to those members relating to the MTDN.com service. MTDN.com also collects other profile data including but not limited to: personal interests, gender, age, education and occupation in order to assist members in finding and communicating with each other. When you visit or log-in to MTDN.com, we collect non-personally-identifiable information including IP address, profile information, aggregate user data, and browser type. This data is used to manage the Web site, track usage and improve Web site services. This non-personally-identifiable information may be shared with third-parties to provide more relevant services and advertisements to members. User IP addresses are recorded for security and monitoring purposes. Is this correct in how MTDN.com works? Member Profile information including members' pictures and Display names are displayed to people in order to facilitate user interaction in the MTDN.com cause network community. Email addresses are used for the purposes of inviting new friends to join MTDN.com, to add members to members' friends' networks, and to send notifications related to the service. With the exception of inviting friends, adding friends, and notifications, a user's email address is not shared or displayed to people within a user's personal network. Members within a personal network communicate on MTDN.com with each other through the MTDn.com messaging service, without disclosing their email addresses. Members' full names are never directly revealed to other members, instead members use “Display” names. To facilitate searching and finding friends and acquaintances on the service, MTDN.com allows members to search for other members using first and last name, email address, and schools and/or companies where members may have attended or worked. We may also use a member’s email address to send updates, a newsletter or news regarding the service. Members may choose not to receive email of this type by changing their "notification" setting to "Do not send me notification emails" in the user "Account Settings" Tracking Donation Information When you make a donation to fund all or part of a Wish posted by a nonprofit, you are donating directly to the nonprofit through MTDN. MTDN.com has connected the individual nonprofit’s Google Checkout and/or PayPal account through the MTDN.com Web site. MTDN.com does not touch the donation. We do capture the amount of the donation and how it was made, so that we may allow you to track your donations in your individual profile and keep aggregate totals of how many donations a particular Wish has gathered and how many donations the nonprofits have received throughout the entire MTDN.com site. When you make a donation to the nonprofit, Google Checkout and PayPal will make your personal information available to the nonprofit. Since the donation is a direct transaction between you and the nonprofit, they may have a different privacy policy than MTDN.com does. MTDN.com is not responsible for the privacy policies of any of our Nonprofit members. Invitations and Other Communications to Non-members MTDN.com members can invite friends to join the service by sending invitation emails via our automated invite system. MTDN.com stores the email addresses that members provide so that the respondents may be added to the friend's list of the member sending the invitations, and also to send reminders of the invitations. MTDN.com does not sell these email addresses or use them to send any other communication besides invitations, invitation reminders (up to three (3) per email address). Recipients of invitations from MTDN.com may contact MTDN.com to request the removal of their information from our database. MTDN.com members may also store email addresses of people they know in their internal MTDN.com address book and may also choose to send invitations and other communications to those addresses. You may prevent MTDN.com email invitations and other messages from being sent to any email address you control by sending a single email with the subject "BLOCK" to privacy@MTDN.com Please note that the email must come from the account you Wish to block. Use of Cookies A cookie is a piece of data stored on a member’s computer tied to information about the member. We use “session cookies” to confirm that the member is logged in. These “session cookies” terminate when the member closes the browser. By default, we use a “persistent cookie” that stores you login ID, but not your password, to make it easier when you return to MTDN.com. You can remove or block this cookie setting in your browser if you don’t want to use this convenience feature. However, you must enable cookies from MTDN.com to use most functions on the MTDN.com Web site. Posting Member Content As a member of MTDN.com, you may set up your profile, invite friends, blog, build a photogallery, track Wishes, set up Wish alerts and make donations directly to fund Wishes posted by nonprofits. We collect information about your activities on MTDN.com so we can provide you the service and offer personalized features. In most cases, we retain the information so you can use the information in several ways including returning to view prior messages you have sent, easily see your friends list, communicate via your blog and track donations. You post content on MTDN at your own risk. Although we allow you to set privacy options that limit access to your member pages, please realize that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable. We cannot control the behavior of other Members with whom you may choose to share your pages and information. Therefore, we cannot and do not guarantee that the Member Content that you post on MTDN.com won’t be viewed by unauthorized persons. By using MTDN.com, you are consenting to having your personal member data transferred and stored in the United States. Children We are concerned about the safety and privacy of all visitors and Members, especially children under the age of 14. MTDN.com is a general audience site, and do not direct our content specifically at children under fourteen (14) years of age or knowingly solicit information from any child under the age of 14. Children under the age of 14 are prohibited from using the service without the supervision of a parent or legal guardian. If you are under the age of 14, please use this site only with the approval of your parents or guardian. We encourage families to participate and children under the age of 14 should only do so under supervision of a parent or guardian. If you are a parent or guardian who permits a child under the age of 14 to use the Site, you agree that you will be solely responsible for: (a) the online conduct of such Minor; (b) monitoring such Minor's access to and use of the Site; (c) the consequences of any use of the Site by such Minor. The disclaimers and limitations of liability set forth herein shall apply to you for acts of the person under the age of 14. Links MTDN.com contains links to other Web sites. MTDN.com is not responsible for the privacy policies and/or practices on other sites. When linking to another site a member should read the privacy policy stated on that site. Our privacy policy only governs information collected on MTDN.com. Blogs and Comments Please be aware that whenever you voluntarily post public information to MTDN.com blogs or make a comment on your profile or on a nonprofit profile or a Wish, that that information can be accessed by the public and can in turn be used by those people to send you unsolicited communications. Correcting/Updating or Removing Information MTDN.com members may modify or remove any of their personal information at any time by logging into their account and accessing features such as Edit Profile and Account Info. Email Choice/Opt-out Members who no longer Wish to receive updates or notifications may choose not to by selecting 'Do not send me notification emails' in the user profile 'Account Settings'. Members who do not Wish to receive MTDN.com newsletters may choose not to by selecting 'Do not send me MTDN.com newsletters' in the user profile 'Account Settings'. All notification emails and MTDN.com newsletters also include the above instructions for opting-out of those communications in the future. Security MTDN.com member accounts are secured by member-created passwords. MTDN.com takes precautions to insure that member account information is kept private. We use reasonable measures to protect member information that is stored within our database, and we restrict access to member information to those employees who need access to perform their job functions, such as our customer service personnel and technical staff. Please note that we cannot guarantee the security of member account information. Unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors may compromise the security of member information at any time For any additional information about the security measures we use on MTDN.com, please contact us using the contact form located at the bottom of each Web page. Sharing and Disclosure of Information MTDN.com Collects Except as otherwise described in this privacy statement, MTDN.com will not disclose personal information to any third party unless we believe that disclosure is necessary: (1) to conform to legal requirements or to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other legal process received by MTDN.com, whether or not a response is required by applicable law; (2) to enforce the MTDN.com Terms of Use Agreement or to protect our rights; or (3) to protect the safety of members of the public and members of the service. MTDN.com reserves the right to transfer personal information to a successor in interest that acquires rights to that information as a result of the sale of MTDN.com or substantially all of its assets to that successor in interest. If we make changes, we will post them on our site to make members aware of what the changes are so members will always be aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and when we may disclose it. A member is bound by any minor changes to the policy when she or he uses the site after those changes have been posted. If, however, we are going to use members' personally identifiable information in a manner materially different from that stated at the time of collection we will notify by posting a notice on our Web site for 30 days.
