Causes
The theme within all my cause work is FREEDOM: Freedom from abuse, neglect, and terror. Freedom from inequality, prejudice, and hate. Freedom from ignorance, disease and poverty.
Nonprofits I Donate To
I give a great deal of time, money and energies to various organizations - sometimes on a regular basis, sometimes per request for a special event. My favorites are ones that help animals, equality, children and women's well-being. Below are just a few that I work with consistently.
Places I Volunteer At
IN DEFENSE OF ANIMALS, Bark Avenue Foundation, Young Williams Animal Center, PAWS Atlanta, Humane Society of the United States, Reading for the Blind & Dyslexic, Book Pals & Read Across America, The Blank's Young Playwrights Festival, and What a Pair
Other Ways I Make a Difference in The World
ON-LINE ACTIVISM is an easy way to make a difference. I have signed up to receive numerous notices from various organizations around the world, and almost daily I take some action with just a few clicks on my keyboard. It give me a great sense of empowerment. The next way I make a difference is with THE POWER OF MY DOLLAR. I do everything I can to make sure I am buying humane products, and staying away from individuals and companies who harm animals, people and the environment. The National Anti-Vivisection Society (www.navs.org) is a wonderful resource to check who's-who among humane companies.
Other Ways I Would Like to Make a Difference
I would love to be a political figure on behalf of animals. How does "Ambassador Hendrix" sound?!

Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy said

Hi Elaine-
I, like you, am a dog lover. I work with Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy in the great city of Chicago. Rainbow is an entirely volunteer run organization dedicated to promoting dogs that help children gain independence, improve their health, and quality of life.

Animal Assisted Therapy is a therapuetic intervention that brings children (primarily) with physical, mental and emotional needs, as a way of meeting those needs. We have implemented and developed programs for children who are physically ill, children with physical handicaps, emotional problems or mental disabilities.

Rainbow serves most of the major hospitals and schools in the city with close to 75 programs city wide and 165 dog/handler teams. We touch nearly 1000 kids a month with our therapy sessions and visitations.

I just heard about MTDN and have signed up our non-profit organization and hoping for sponsors. We have been serving the Chicago and outlying area for 20 years, but still maintain a very "grassroots" environment. We are hoping to take it to the next level by developing our existing programs in assisted therapy along with new programs we are developing such as "Dog Safety" for K-4th grade (highest incidences of ER visits with dog bites in this age group), "Crisis Response" (our dogs went to visit the college students at NIU after the shooting), and "Dog Apprehension" classes to help children with severe fear of dogs.

Needless to say, we need additional funds for that, and more.

I have some wonderful media I can send you about who we are. Our website address is www.rainbowaat.org and if you check it out, please know that we undergoing a "face list" of the site which should be up & running within weeks.

I believe in things happening for a reason...I was watching "E News", saw the spot on MTDN & Jessica Biel, signed up Rainbow (but haven't listed it yet), and then saw your feature.
Hope this reaches you and that you'd consider looking at what benefits these special needs children get from these dog therapy sessions.
With anticipation,
Robin Simborg
