The first full-week in February is “Burn Awareness Week”. Shriners Hospitals for Children has developed an educational program with materials for young children, teens, firefighters and educators to use throughout the year.
Each year, the theme focuses on one aspect of burn prevention, In 2009, the theme is gasoline safety. Featuring Anthony the Fire Safety Ant, the curriculum includes lesson plans, coloring books, crayons, Anthony the Ant stickers and temporary tattoos. A video has been developed for a teen audience that features a burn survivor and his family, and serves as a warning to teens about playing with gasoline. All materials are provided at no charge.
