Organization Overview
About Us
OUR MISSION: Whidbey Children's Theater is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children by creating opportunities for them to discover, experience and participate in the performing arts. We endeavor to include all children who wish to participate regardless of their ability to pay, and have set up a scholarship fund so that all children can enjoy the same level of participation with WCT. Our community is located on beautiful Whidbey Island in Washington state. WCT is one of the primary opportunities for children and youth on our island to participate in and develop skills in the performing arts. Not only is this an enriching educational opportunity, it is an opportunity for youth to develop special talents and skills, learn to take risks safely, and to learn socialization skills. We work with children ages 3 - 18, and have had many children "grow up" in our WTC family. We produce and perform at least 5 plays per year, as well as offering drama and improv classes throughout the year. During the summer months our island attracts many visitors, and our numbers swell to include opportunities for off-island youth, as well. We serve in excess of 500 children and youth per year, and that number is growing. Besides offering beloved perennial classics (such as The Sound of Music, Charlotte's Web, The Jungle Book, Oklahoma, etc.), we also offer educational pieces exploring environmental and social issues (such as The Wrestling Season, The See Saw Tree, I Never Saw Another Butterfly, and The Last Exit). We enjoy a tremendous amount of community support, and yet there is always a need for funding, not only for specific programs and performances, but for our scholarship fund that enables young people to participate in our programs who might not otherwise be able to afford them. Thank you for your interest in the Whidbey Children's Theater! We hope you will come visit us and attend one of our productions.
Our Organization's Mission
Whidbey Children's Theater is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children by creating opportunities for them to discover, experience, and participate in the performing arts.

We believe that the performing arts have a valuable place in our community, and that through participation in the arts, children will develop and build their self-confidence and self-expression. We also believe that the teamwork, discipline, and dedication required by the craft of theater teaches life skills that positively influence the lives of children. We further endeavor to participate cooperatively with the larger community of arts groups wherever possible.
Who We Serve
We serve children and teens, ages 3 - 19. Most are residents of Whidbey Island, a geographically isolated island 35 miles north of Seattle. Our numbers increase during the summer when we see an influx of children who come to vacation with relatives on the island. We strive to serve every child that wants to participate, which means we offer a number of work trades and scholarships throughout the year.
Our Programs
We feature 4 - 5 major productions each year. Most of these feature local children and teens, and upon occasion there will be a production featuring adult actors performing for youth audiences. In addition, we offer classes and workshops for children of all ages in a variety of areas, including creative dramatics, drama club, tech wizardry, vocal skills, improvisation, and special interactive programs for spring break and summer vacation.

What Sets Us Apart
We are a very hands-on organization with classes and workshops going year round, and several major performances throughout the year. We are volunteer-driven and even our Board of Directors rolls up their sleeves and gets involved in the day-to-day activities and events of the theater. Because Whidbey Island is geographically isolated, children here have few extracurricular activities to choose from. The Whidbey Children's Theater is one of the most visible, creative and affordable options for children who want to explore their creativity and talents, while engaging in a social environment that encourages them to learn, take risks safely, and grow. We have a thriving scholarship program that enables all interested children and teens to participate in classes, workshops and productions at the Whidbey Children's Theater.

Collaboration
People We Would Like to Collaborate With
Artists and performers who enjoy performing for and with children, who have special talents and gifts to share, as well as organizations that have funds to support various projects that we have a mutual interest in producing. We are always open to new ideas and proposals from individuals and groups, such as dance troupes, instrumental groups, etc. We want to work with others whose goal is to provide a nurturing environment for children to learn and grow. Our goal is not to train children to go into acting as a profession (although some of our youth do go on to become actors), but to foster healthy development and self-confidence, using theater arts as a backdrop.
Projects We Would Like to Collaborate on
Besides light-hearted musical projects, comedies and timeless classics, we also find it important to produce dramatic and unique pieces that are educational in nature.
